THIS IS NO PUPPET SHOW

I speak – they re-enact

The work is an exploration of how to construct and play with meaning when text meets auditory and visual disturbances on stage. The central element and point of departure is a loop machine that functions both as a live element, through which text is accumulated and deconstructed by the performer on stage, and as a documenting element with its perpetual repetitions of what is recorded throughout the entire performance. Thus the loop machine in many ways became an evolving and performative organism in itself.

The performance is based on written statements and text excerpts from different philosophers, playwrights and writers and the texts excerpts are to a certain extent disjointed in meaning as they come from different sources. Added visual and performative aspects the fragmented landscape slowly assembles into a phrased performance and constructs a common frame of understanding.

Text and performance by Nicolas Bourriaud, Tatsumi Hijikata, Peter Handke, Mina Loy, Faris and Marie-Louise Stentebjerg

THIS IS NO PUPPET SHOW – BUT A CONSTRUCTION SITE

at Den Frie, Centre for Contemporary Art, August 2011

This performance was an elaboration on the work with the text and loopmachine and here I dealt with only one text which I had written myself. During the performance the text was dissected by recording it only one word at a time in an abstract order. This took away the possibility of deriving any meaning from the collection of words until all was recorded and one could recognize an assembled meaning. I would add physical actions that referred to the given collection of words and in this way there would slowly be build a visual story, which directed the meaning of the text at every cycle of repetition.

MANUAL FOR BETTER GAMES

In Manual for Better Games the performers are being guided live, through a youtube video, to make a scenographical setting in which new rooms and possibilities are created. The audience will step by step be following this simple actions development on the stage.
